My recent work has developed over a period of time. There was no intentional effort to go abstract. Abstraction offers no sense of recognition for many that might find interest in an artist's work. The avenues of communication are problematic. Identifying with the subject and the search for "attractive", "edgy" or "current" images became tedious to me. I realized others related more to their particular interest in the subject and its politics than the invisible qualities I was trying to reach for. As I explored more genuine ways to express myself, I was drawn to add dimension to my art experience with an intuitive sense of "rightness". These mysterious beginnings have increased my understanding of how things work creatively. The combination of mind and intuition provides experiences of surprise, excitement and playfulness. I love the sensuous aspect of making art, the physical part, the use of materials. With a strong background in printmaking and drawing, I remain fascinated with paper and ink. The quality of ink, luminosity, clarity and resonance of color, is beautiful and I chase the elusive rainbow.
